My daughter is now more interested in her future. And, she is starting to think how college will prepare her for certain careers.

ABOUT

Since 2004 Passion for Learning (P4L) has helped students in low income communities develop the skills they will need for a 21st Century knowledge-based global economy and technology-rich society. Through literacy-based digital learning, our Dig.Lit students inquire, create, collaborate, problem solve, communicate, and connect with the world.

Our overarching goal is to help them become skilled, productive and responsible content creators and not just consumers of technology. Through literacy-based after school and summer digital learning activities, enhanced by field trips and tech guests, our youth improve their digital literacy, digital citizenship and gain new Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) skills and interests for high school and beyond.

Coached by adult educators and ICT professionals as well as older students, Dig.Lit students become contributing digital citizens as well as striving students, with aspirations and confidence for their future.

Our Mission

P4L's mission is to help economically disadvantaged students prepare for educational and life success by engaging them in ICT enrichment and college awareness-access-readiness programs. P4L addresses the "opportunity gap" experienced by many MCPS students, who because of the lack of family resources, are at risk of being underestimated and marginalized. P4L encourages and supports our students towards higher levels of educational and personal development as they enter high school and prepare to become productive and contributing young adults.

We Believe

  • Every child has the potential to be an inspired and committed learner;
  • Our community has the responsibility and ability to help make learning come alive for all of its children and youth;
  • The involvement of parents and families is critical to student success;
  • Business, community and older student mentors and role models can make an amazing difference in the life of a child;
  • Our future as a community, county, state and nation is tied to our ability to help every child learn, strive and find the magic in themselves.
